Massimo Fumiani

"I like polynomials, up to a certain degree."

I am a doctoral researcher and project assistant in Cryptography at the University of Innsbruck (Department of Computer Science), under the supervision of Arnab Roy.
I am part of the WWTF project Cross-Domain Privacy-Preserving Protocols and Symmetric Cryptography.

Research interests. I am currently focused on the intersection of post-quantum cryptography and algebraic cryptanalysis. I am particularly interested in lattice-based constructions, especially the hardness of the Learning With Errors problem, and the algebraic tools that can be used to study it. More broadly, I am curious about how cryptographic primitives can be designed to meet the demands of privacy-preserving protocols such as zero-knowledge proofs, multi-party computation, and fully homomorphic encryption.

Education. Padova → Trento → Innsbruck
In March 2026, I received the MSc in Mathematics (Cryptography track) at the University of Trento, under the supervision of Irene Villa. During an Erasmus exchange at the University of Innsbruck, I developed my master’s thesis on the algebraic cryptanalysis of the LWE problem, introducing a new algorithm for the binary error case in collaboration with Arnab Roy and Luca Campa. In 2022, I received the BSc in Mathematics at the University of Padova.
